ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Reviews, analyzes and provides proper interpretations and applications of the laws, rules and regulations affecting planning functions.
- Responds to planning-related inquiries from the general public and other agencies/organizations in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Evaluates and makes recommendations on site plans, zoning verification letters, construction plans, landscape plans, elevation and architectural plans, parking plans, drainage plans, building permit applications, business tax receipt applications, and appearance plans to ensure conformance with applicable processes, codes and ordinances.
- Receives, logs and reviews applications for development requests, site plan revisions, encroachments, plats, variances and other cases for review by the Planning Commission, Zoning Board or Village Council.
- Provides technical support; researches, compiles, interprets, and analyzes various types of information, data and materials; and prepares reports accordingly.
- Utilizes a variety of computer file types which include PDF, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, MS Access, image files, and ESRI MXD.
- Performs field/site inspections of properties as needed to determine compliance with regulations and ordinances.
- Researches documents, codes and ordinances as necessary for planning production.
- Assists with revisions to Village municipal code and land development regulations.
- Prepares packets for Planning Commission, Zoning Board, Village Council and other development and planning-related meetings, including but not limited to staff reports and agendas.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in planning, architecture, urban design, geography, public administration or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- One (1) year of successful experience in professional planning, urban planning, architectural review or code drafting and/or review with preference for experience with urban design concepts. [Master’s degree in planning or closely related professional field may be substituted for the work experience requirement.]
- Strong technical, verbal and written communication skills in conjunction with highly developed computer, organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and complete assignments with minimal direction in the most effective and cost efficient manner.
- Firsthand knowledge of Florida’s growth management and community development principles and practices.
- Experience in reading and interpreting planning documents, municipal codes, architectural drawings, site plans and other materials in order to conduct inspections and determine compliance.
- Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgement, analyze complex planning issues, consider multi-dimensional solutions and recommend viable courses of action.
- Knowledge of current technology and software applications appropriate to the assigned responsibilities.
- Evidence of exceptional customer service skills and orientation.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and connections with both internal and external customers, industry professionals, co-workers, and the public.
- Valid Florida driver’s license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Tasks involve the ability to exert slight physical effort in sedentary to light work and may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds).
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed in normal office conditions with infrequent exposure to adverse environmental factors.
