The City of Port St. Lucie is seeking a Planner I or Planner II to join their team!

SUMMARY OF THE PLANNER I POSITION

Responsible for entry level professional work requiring the ability to handle multiple tasks including the management of development requests such as site plans, subdivisions, rezonings, variances, and special exceptions as well as conducting long range planning research and independent studies.  Familiarity with Florida’s growth management practices and comprehensive planning. This position will require exceptional customer service skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, computer skills, and analytical ability. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PLANNER I POSITION

  • Knowledge of the planning, principles, and practices as applied to the collection of community planning data and in the preparation of community planning reports and studies in both graphic and written form.
  • Ability to write concisely and to follow technical formats.
  • Ability to direct and participate in complex planning studies, analyze information, and formulate substantive recommendations based upon such studies.
  • Ability to interpret related laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to direct the work of others.
  • Ability to present ideas and findings clearly and concisely in oral, written, and graphic form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with employees, City officials, and the public.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in Planning, Environmental Science or a related field and one (1) year of professional experience that includes Planning or Environmental Planning required; OR graduation from an accredited college or university with Bachelor’s degree in one of the above fields and two (2) years of professional experience in above areas, or related field, required. Possession of valid Florida driver’s license and maintenance of clean driving record required. American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification preferred.

 

SUMMARY  OF PLANNER II  POSITION

This is advanced professional work in community planning, research, and design relating to current land development and rezoning proposals, environmental assessment, planning research, and/or planning initiatives Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PLANNER II POSITION

  • Well-developed knowledge of planning principles and practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of one or more planning specialization, such as economic development, transportation planning, or environmental planning.
  • Knowledge of principles, methodology, practices of research and data collection.
  • Knowledge of effective writing techniques.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software programs, which may include Microsoft Office, Internet applications, econometric or transportation modeling, database management, or GIS.
  • Oral communication and interpersonal skills to present research findings to various boards and committees.
  • Strong professional writing skills.
  • Creative problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve less well-defined practical problems.
  • Ability to review plans and apply provisions of the ordinances and codes to determine compliance with such regulations and to apply regulations to field conditions.
  • Group facilitation skills for use with community workshops.
  • Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment as needed.
  • Ability to attend to details while keeping big-picture goals in mind.

Planner I

Salary: $58,059 to$89,991 annually

 

Planner II

Salary: $64,010 to $99,216 annually
